How to Start Therapy Sessions with Us at Harper’s Haven...

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You might wonder how to begin, what to expect, or if therapy is the right fit for you. I want to walk you through the simple, caring process we use at Harper’s Haven Marriage, Family, & Child Counseling Corp. to help you get the support you need. Whether you are dealing with relationship anxiety, healing from domestic violence, or seeking mental health support for other reasons we are here to help you.

Setting Up Your First Contact

The first step is easy and free. You can set up a 15-minute consultation with us or fill out our contact us page to reach out. This initial conversation is a chance for us to connect and understand why you are seeking treatment. It’s also a time for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable working with us.

You can call us directly at 661-228-0225 or email us at info@harpershavencounseling.com We want to make this as simple and welcoming as possible.

During this first contact, we will ask a few questions to learn about your situation. This helps us understand how we can best support you. We want to know what challenges you are facing and what goals you hope to reach through therapy. This step is important because therapy works best when it fits your unique needs.

What Happens After You Reach Out

Once we have a clear idea of your needs, we will decide together if we are a good fit. Therapy is a personal journey, and it’s important that you feel safe and understood by your therapist. If we agree to move forward, we will schedule your first session.

Before your first session, we will need some basic information from you: your first and last name, email, and phone number. This information allows us to invite you to our client portal. The portal is a secure online space where you can complete important paperwork before your session.

The paperwork includes consents for services, which are necessary to start therapy. Completing these forms ahead of time helps us use your first session to focus on you, not on administrative tasks.

Your First Therapy Session: The Assessment

Your first session is an assessment. This means we will spend time getting to know you better. We will talk about your history, your current challenges, and your goals for therapy. This session sets the foundation for your treatment plan.

The assessment is a safe space to share your story at your own pace. We listen carefully and ask questions to understand how we can support you best and we will work on a treatment plan together.

How We Support You Through Therapy

At Harper’s Haven, we offer different types of therapy to meet your needs. For example, we provide marriage and family counseling to help couples and families improve communication and resolve conflicts. We also offer individual therapy for those dealing with anxiety, trauma, or other mental health concerns, and we offer groups for postpartum mothers, adults with invisible disabilities, and domestic violence victims.

The sessions are all provided via telehealth or online via a video link that we provide that is confidential. This means you can attend sessions from the comfort of your home. This option is especially helpful if you have a busy schedule.

You can learn more about our services on our website:

What You Can Expect Moving Forward

After your assessment, we will schedule regular sessions based on your availability and needs. Therapy is a process, and we will work together step by step. You can expect a warm, judgment free space where your feelings and experiences are respected.

We encourage open communication. If something isn’t working for you, please tell us. Your comfort and progress are our top priorities.

Remember, therapy is not about quick fixes. It’s about building understanding, healing, and new skills over time. We are here to support you through every step.
